Mixed Media Canvas - Part Two: Finishing Touches, More is More!

...here it is, part two of my mixed media blog post!

THE FINISHED CANVAS!

so, this is what i THOUGHT was gona be the final finished canvas...
LOOK AT ALL THE BEADS, BUTTONS AND BITS!
BUT, then i added a few more buttons, gems, metal butterflies and some silver nail varnish to a few of the elements:
this frame is gona look so nice with a photo of someones loved one/s  in it♥
so, thats it, its taken me a few weeks, doing bits here and there, then adding bits here and there... its been a labour of love, but ive LOVED doing it. i love the combination of colours and bits and bobs!

AAAAND... the canvas IS for SALE, so if youd like it, post a comment below, or send me a tweet @cLare_beaR_ or a message to my jewellery facebook page: www.facebook.com/butterfLypiex for prices, shipping info etc!

Mixed Media Canvas - Part One: Stages,Progress and Stuff!

hello, and YES, ive been doing more mixed media, i cant get enough of it!

here are some photos of the different stages and the progress of  the canvas, and ill mainly let the images speak for themselves, but ill tell u bits here and there. this post is VERY photo heavy, so be warned...

i added some ripped lines of paper to a white square canvas, the sprayed a bit of red and green, then added my mixed media elements...
i then painted the elements with some gesso, meaning that the sprays and paints would 'stick' to the plastic and metal pieces better!
...then, more spray/paints!
then, i added a bit more gesso to certain elements of the canvas...
a bit of  watercolour drippy-ness...
i then used some gesso and lilac emulsion paint to make some circles using a cup to print.
 then, more spraying...
these are all the progress shots i took of the canvas as i was painting/spraying it, and the next post will be part two, showing the finished canvas with all the added buttons, pearls, beads, metal elements etc!

mixed media madness!

hello!

for AGES now, ive been OBSESSED with the Youtube videos of Gabrielle Pollacco, who makes AMAZING mixed media creations.

if youre not familiar with mixed media, its basically the process of making art[usually canvases, frames and stuff] which have been created using unconventional pieces like metal bottlecaps, fabric flowers, plastic charms etc, and covered with a medium called Gesso, which is ideal for coating metals and plastics, and it leaves a great base for colour [paints, sprays] to be applied! i LOVE IT.

here are some of the sprays i made, using some food colouring with acrylic paints mixed in. i also used a fabric spray i had...

i have an art degree, and did art at school and college, so have done a lot of mixed media pieces, but none using gesso, and not in the same way as this piece.

so, armed with some techniques and ideas id seen on Gabrielle's Youtube channel, i set about attempting to create my own mixed media piece.

so, here are some progress shots of some of the stages involved in making my frame, eek!
AAAAAND, here is the finished frame, with added buttons, gems and beads! I LOVE IT and i LOVE the colour combinations!
i really enjoyed creating my mixed media frame, and have just started a mixed media canvas, its SUCH FUN!

if youd like to give it a go, DO IT, and id also recommend having a peek at Gabrielle Pollacco's youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/GabriellePollacco
